23 Things on a Stick

A library learning 2.0 project

I was just wondering when/where everyone else is finding the time to do the 23 Things? I really enjoy it, but some days it is hard to fit it in, so I am doing it from the comforts of my home too ;-) as well as a little bit at Caribou the other day :-)

Some things I can work on between patrons at the reference desk. Other things are blocked in our system so I've worked very briefly at home. My library system has decided that the 23 Things are so important that we are encouraged to do them on work time (very nice!)

Some I do at work, some I do at home. It sort of depends on how many other things there are that I should be doing at any particular time.

Some at home, some at work. It feels a bit weird at either place -- doing work at home, OR perhaps letting something else slide a bit while I 'play' on the computer.

I did almost every single "thing" at home. My work computer blocks things and is very slow--it wasn't worth it to get started on a "thing" and then find out I couldn't get it to work. I enjoyed doing the things at home and I didn't feel as pressured as if it had been a work mandated activity. I think maybe I showed my page to a co-worker while I was at work but that was about it. I usually have my laptop on my lap while I'm watching tv (it's nice and warm in the winter) so I worked on it all the time and could still be with the family. My husband reads and watches tv and I surf and watch tv. The dog thinks we're both crazy.

I've been doing the same thing - working on it at home because the filtering at school blocks just about everything fun and I can still be with my family. My kids have really enjoyed some of the Things too. It's been fun to learn with them and most have been so simple a child could do it, literally! My son made me put the Common Craft video about how to survive a zombie attack on my blog. He's watched it about 20 times now and cracks up every time. Did I mention he's 8?

I just showed my daughter the zombie video - she loved it! Her favorite teacher got her started on a zombie trip...wonder if he's seen this? She's 12.

Cindy, I've been working on the 23 Things but I have to admit I do it at home. I have no time to do explore these sites on library time. I've been enjoying all these 'things' though.

Since we have wireless at home and school, I've worked on the 23 Things in both places. I've done a lot at the reference desk during slow times, but things that are blocked at school, I had to do at home. It has been fun to share information with colleagues and family who have been hesitant to explore the possibilities.

All of it has been done at home--work offers me no time to do this, or it would be so disjointed that I would never figure anything out. Home is slow, but I can concentrate a bit. I know we are all good at multi-tasking, but trying all this would push me over the edge...

I've been doing it all at home. But, I figure I read books at home to stay current with teen literature, and I do this at home to stay current with Web 2.0 stuff.

I do it at work when I have a few minutes. I've learned a lot but I'm ready to be done.

Although we have permission to do the 23 Things on work time, it is usually too busy, and there are a lot of interruptions. Also, the library computers don't have the software needed for some of the "things" and we aren't allowed to download anything. So, I have done most of the 23 Things at home. It is taking a lot more time than I thought it would!
