I hope crocheting counts too! Right now I'm doing a little bit of both: crocheting a baby hat and knitting a scarf.

I look forward to knitting again once we settle down into our new position in Greenville, SC. I love knitting patterns. What fun to have a group in the library world.

OK, went to Yarnover 2009 on Saturday. Hadn't even heard of this before - it's an all-day knitting conference and market sponsored by the Minnesota Knitters Guild. Went in the morning only. Took a class from Chris Bylsma (the Crayon Box jacket designer) called 'Eight Empowering Edges." Interesting! Recommended. Held annually with lots of knitting designers.

I checked out the online stores and the manufacturer (Rowan) didn't have the colors specified in the patterns. I swear they print those pattern books and stop making the colors. Oh well, I'll get some substitutes - aaarrrggh. It will work. I discovered the scarf in the picture was actually made with a gray yarn and not green as it appeared. Lots of retouching, apparently.

I love Knit Picks for on line shopping and they have a good pod cast too.

I can spend endless hours searching Ravelry patterns and yarn. I like the fact that you can find out if someone else had problems making a pattern or working with a specific yarn before you start the project. They now have a pattern for a hat that was worn by Bella from the Twlight books and movie. Can we work that into a teen activity?

A Sock-of-the-month club appeals to me, but it usually takes me more than a month to finish a pair. I've already got yarn for the next several pairs! So far I've used free patterns.
Ravelry.com provides a place for people to inventory their yarn and needles. Also I use it to look at other people's projects using yarn I have. You have sign up to be "invited," which may take a week. A great resource.

Y'know, re: access to nice yarn. Gwen Schagrin & I went to Borealis Yarns (Thomas & Hamline Aves, St. Paul) over lunch yesterday. They had a zillion kinds of great yarn, but nothing that my Nicky Epstein scarf patterns called for. I just wasn't in the mood to substitute, swatch (for a scarf?) and all that. So I decided to shop online. YIKES!!

I am an avid hat maker. My daughter loves hats and I enjoy making them. I've never finished a pair of socks although I have one sock about 1/3 done. I have limited access to quality yarn. There is a small selection of nice yarn in a fabric, clothing, toy, book store across the Canadian border in Ft. Frances. I made each of my kids a scarf in Gryffindor colors that I created (no pattern).

I joined a sock of the month group to try and get my sock stash down. (All thought I've been told that sock yarn doesn't count as stash.) So far I've been successful.
I found a Harry Potter Illusion scarf on the internet and made one for a friend who is a Harry Potter fan. Has anyone else found a book related pattern?
