Joined the 23 Things On A Stick Ning and then thought there might be other useful Ning groups as well. Glad to be here!

So this makes an even 20. Ning seems just a little more 'quiet' than facebook and for this librarian quieter is better.

Good to know about Ning. I would not have tried it without the 23 things incentive. I agree, with several others here, if the reason you want one of these accounts is to network, this has a safer feel. On the other hand, if one's purpose is to be a presence, then facebook or myspace is probably better. It is the same issue with a new tool - analyze, and chose the best!

I am pretty heavily invested in Facebook, but it is fun to become familiar with other networks. I agree with other comments that there probably won't be as many kids viewing my page in Ning.

I agree totally. I feel much more comfortable in Ning than either MySpace or Facebook (and I'm way past 50!). Not many days left, but I am determined to complete the 23 things before our deadline. I think I'm going to make it - hooray!

I have had a myspace and facebook page for at least 3 years now. My kids are away at college so talk to them and their friends and some other parents on therm. Also, love IM and texting. I have had youth in the library while I was discussing my blog and they got very excited and asked if the library had a blog. I have really enjoyed learning the 23 things on a stick, this had made me take the time to look farther into some of the things I have used but really not dug that far around in them. Like Flikr – I have gotten images off of there but did not know what all you could do on that site! I love learning.

Well, we made it through the 23 tasks. I like that word much better than things. I have already closed my FaceBook account for the same reasons you have stated. I know tha students will not think to look for a library site to find information on me. We have a snow day today, so that has given me some extra time to explore. I found TeacherTube and located some videos that i think the teachers will be excited aobut.

I too feel more comfortable here than on Facebook, probably won't have kids looking at our pages!! Part of the comfort is knowing who my audience is. Here I'm comfortable. On Facebook it's like a senior citizen at a prom!

I just joined and agree - I feel more comfortable here too. ugh-I am a dinosaur.
