Teaching kids to be green is not an easy job. However, take home projects can increase awareness. Perhaps teachers could assign extra credit to kids who will learn how to change their
Furnace Filters. Or kids could figure the energy usage for an appliance like a
Basement Dehumidifier. They could bring…

I mentioned in a comment a couple of weeks ago that I would create a new social network using Ning. I did that. It took about a week to get the layout right, with easy to read background colors and text. Adding content and deciding what goes on the Main page, and what should be local to My Page will be an ongoing process. The initial setup of new groups, forum discussions, and blogs became like an obsession that occupied much of two days.
Not many friends responded to my invitation to join t…

The
Horror Writers Association presented the 2008
Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement at a ceremony on June 12-14 in Burbank, California. The Horror Writers Association was started by Alabama's own Robert McCammon in 1987, and the award is named in honor of one of the first true kings of horror. As early as 1984 McCammon expressed a desire for a professional organization and support group for wr…

A friend of mine in China can't get into his blogspot.com. Somehow Facebook still works for him. I suggested he look at ning.com.
What nings are open to all for creating or migrating blogs? What have you started as a social network with ning beyond 23 Things on a Stick? Continue

I've finished "More Things on a Stick" under the deadline and then it was extended. I hope more people can finish. I haven't visited this Ning blog for a while, but I do like it and hope we can keep it going. I applaud all the PLS people who participated in this online learning tool. The question I have is what did you like best? For me, starting a blog was the most eye-opening. I'm now doing 6 or so (what does that say that I can't remember). Our staff has a closed blog that has been a great su…

Still struggling though the Things...
It would be easy to spend more time working on the Things each week than I do at work.

I found a couple of sites that are really worth looking for: Cheaptweets on Twitter shows you places to get some awesome deals on travel, music, books, Amazon, etc. Then on Goggle Maps, I found a site called Wines & Times which would be really interesting if you were to travel across a boring state such as Nebraska.

Just blogging about how to set this all up on the 23 Things on a stick ning. Not real sure I know what I am doing yet, but looks like you could use this Social Network as a real neat tool to communicate just about anything. Share idea's and interests.

Today I hit the jackpot. I sometimes need an excuse - so I went to "Need an excuse?". Here's mine, "My dog has carpel tunnel syndrome". I also need an alias, so I went to the Random Name Generator, but I don't think Roxy Ballerini really fits me, maybe Sheri Hatton will work. On the usable side, I went to the Printable Paper site, which will be a big thing for me when I need graph paper, or a monthly budget (maybe I could use a daily budget instead).

I liked this website - however I wish I could find a site with a short synopsis of the story of the book. So many books I pick up, I just wonder if I have read them before.

My latest endeavor was Travel 2. The thing I found unique is Green Routes. I find it hard to believe that there is nothing close to Moorhead. However, I have found Maplelag, and other places I plan to visit.

I liked the article called "Debating the Future of the Reference Desk" by S. Bell and S. Watstein. I feel most reference questions are time consuming and a special desk should be dedicated just to reference. This would free up congestion, and patrons waiting at the front desk. Yahoo Answers and other sites could offer most patrons great help.

The latest issue of Bench & Bar of Minnesota (April 2009) has a column by Robert J. Ambrogi titled "Tools to Make Twitter Sing." He lists 20 different tools (with amusing names in themselves, e.g. "OutTwit," a tool which allows you to use Twitter from Microsoft Outlook). If you don't have access to Bench & Bar, enter "Make Twitter Sing" in Google to find this article online in various legal technology publications.
